Avalanche Buries Six Tourists in Northwest Russia

MOSCOW, February 10 (RIA Novosti) – A group of six tourists has been buried by an avalanche in northwestern Russia’s Murmansk Region, the Russian emergencies ministry said on Sunday.

At about 23:44 Moscow time (19:44 GMT) on Saturday, local rescue services were informed about the avalanche at Mount Aikuaivenchor, a popular alpine skiing venue in the region’s Kirovsky District.

“The avalanche buried a tourist group of six people. Search and rescue effort is underway,” the ministry said.

The local emergencies ministry department has issued an avalanche alert earlier on Saturday, warning about a “significant” probability of avalanches in the Khibiny Mountains.
