SOFIA, Bulgaria – Bulgaria’s parliament has confirmed an earlier government decision to abandon plans to build a second 2,000-megawatt nuclear power plant with Russian firm Atomstroyexport. Wednesday’s vote had to be held after turnout in a recent voter referendum backing the project was too low to make it binding. Outgoing Prime Minister Boiko Borisov, who resigned last week amid social protests, has repeatedly pledged to lessen Bulgaria’s almost total dependence on Russian energy supplies.
