Coca Cola’s kvass beats Russian rivals

Just three years was enough for Coca Cola to master the taste of Russia’s millennium-old signature drink.


Experts preferred the American version of kvass to its Russian counterparts during a special tasting organized to mark Consumer Rights Day.

Kvass is traditionally made from fermented wheat or rye bread and flavored with fruits and berries.

Coca Cola launched its own brand of kvass in 2008 in a bid to boost its share of the soft-drink market in Russia.

The decision was timely, as consumption of Russia’s most popular drink has tripled over the last few years. The average Russian now drinks three liters a year.
