Drunk Policeman Plows Into Traffic Checkpoint in Russia – Police

MOSCOW, September 21 (RIA Novosti) – A drunk police officer injured one of his colleagues and several other people when he crashed his Lexus car into a traffic police checkpoint at high speed in the Russian republic of Dagestan on Friday night, police said Saturday.

Five people were hospitalized after the police officer plowed into a concrete barrier at a checkpoint at the entrance to the republic’s capital of Makhachkala at 2 a.m. Saturday, a police spokesperson said, describing the injured as a traffic police inspector, three vehicle passengers and a passing pedestrian. It was not immediately clear whether the three passengers had been traveling in the Lexus or in another vehicle, or whether the drunken officer was one of those taken to a hospital.

An internal investigation is underway, police said.
