FIFA has urged to pressure World Cup hosts Qatar and Russia to relax their anti-gay laws, to ensure fans and players of all races, religions and sexuality feel comfortable going to the tournaments in both the countries.

According to metro.co.uk, homosexuality is illegal in Qatar while new legislation in Russia outlaws the promotion of gay lifestyles.

A task force, set up by FIFA president Sepp Blatter earlier this year, meets in Zurich on Thursday and Piara Powar, executive director of European anti-discrimination group Fare, expressed its remit should not be restricted to dealing with racism, the report said.

Blatter had said in December 2010 that gay fans should refrain from any sexual activities but later apologized for his comments. (ANI)
