Italy marks 150 years of unification performing Verdi’s “Nabucco”

The first performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera “Nabucco”  at the Opera House in Rome has opened the official celebration of the 150 years of  the unification of Italy.

The cast includes Dmitry Beloselskiy of Russia’s Bolshoi Theater.

The choice of the opera to celebrate the 150 years of the unification of Italy is not coincidental. Its famous chorus of “Go, thought, on golden wings,” was an anthem of the Risorgimento, the movement for the country’s unification and was considered as the song which could become an official anthem of the Italian kingdom.

On March 27, “Nabucco” staged by director Riccardo Muti will be performed at the Mariinsky Theater of St. Petersburg as part of Russia-Italy cross culture exchange year.
