Major earthquake strikes Russia

MOSCOW (AP) — A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Russia Thursday in the Pacific off the far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. However, officials said no casualties or damage were reported.The ministry said in a statement that the epicenter of Thursday’s quake was located about 35 nautical miles east of the Kamchatka coast at a depth of 43 miles. It said that the temblor was felt as a magnitude 4 in the provincial capital of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy and other nearby areas.The Russian ministry said there was no threat of tsunami.The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 6.9. …
