Men Who Mocked Grozny Skyscraper Fire to Help in Repairs

MOSCOW, April 9 (RIA Novosti) – Two men, who posted a mocking video on YouTube showing Grozny’s tallest building on fire, will be among about 250 people involved in repair works, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov said on Monday.

At about 6 p.m. last Wednesday, clouds of black smoke engulfed the tallest building of the Grozny City complex, a 40-story apartment building under construction which boasts the world’s largest round clock. The fire spread rapidly to all floors of the skyscraper except the first one.

The Chechen government’s website said a total of 250 workers from four construction companies will take part in repairing the building.

“By the way, two residents of our republic, who posted online a video of the building on fire with their gloating comments, will take a most active part in renovating the skyscraper. They have admitted their fault and promised not to shirk from the work,” Kadyrov wrote in his Instagram account.

Kadyrov announced last Thursday an online vote for two renovation projects. The building is to be repaired before the City Day, to be marked in October, and renamed “Phoenix.”
