Moscow Says Russia to Continue Reacting to US Sanctions

MOSCOW, May 23 (RIA Novosti) – Russia will continue to respond in the proper manner if new sanctions are imposed by the United States, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Friday.

“… We have answered, and we will further answer, including concrete measures …,” Ryabkov said.

The official urged the United States to “abandon that flawed logic.”

The US and EU sanctions against Russia, imposed in relation to the situation around Ukraine and Crimea, have so far remained targeted and consist of government-approved lists of individuals and companies facing visa bans and asset freezes.

He said the danger remained of additional sanctions, which the US has threatened to impose after the Ukrainian presidential elections on May 25.

Moscow has repeatedly stated that the language of sanctions is “inappropriate and counterproductive” and warned its Western partners about the “boomerang effect” that sanctions would have.

Earlier on Friday, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov told RIA Novosti that Russia had prepared measures to respond to the European Union’s sanctions, but was not revealing them.
