Rafael Nadal won the Mexican Open with a demolition of Spanish compatriot David Ferrer in the final.

The world No.5 crushed Ferrer 6-0, 6-2 Saturday to win his second Acapulco title and end Ferrer’s dreams of matching Thomas Muster as the second man to win four consecutive Mexican Opens.

The victory extends Nadal’s record against Ferrer to 17 wins in 21 meetings.

Nadal has now won two of the three competitions he has entered since returning last month from a seven-month absence with a knee injury.

In the women’s competition, world No.8 Sara Errani completed the defence of her title with a 6-0, 6-4 thrashing of Spanish second seed Carla Suarez Navarro, following a roller-coaster second set that saw seven breaks of serve.

“I’m so happy I closed it out at the end. Carla was playing really well. I’m even happier because it’s my first time defending a WTA title. I love this tournament – it’s a really special tournament for me,” Errani said on the WTA website.

The Mexican Open in Acapulco is a hard-court tournament that is a $1.2 million ATP 500 event for the men and a $235,000 WTA International event on the women’s tour.
