Netrebko Says No Plans to Sing at Olympics Closing

BOCHAROV RUCHEI, February 9 (RIA Novosti) – Famed Russian-born opera singer Anna Netrebko, who sang the Olympic Anthem during the Sochi Winter Olympics opening ceremony, said on Saturday she would not take part in the closing event.

The Olympic Anthem is a traditional part of every opening and closing ceremony of the Games.

When asked about whether she would take part in the closing ceremony, the world-famous soprano replied “No, I won’t.”

Netrebko appeared before a crowd of some 40,000 spectators at the Fisht stadium in Sochi on Friday, wearing an elaborate light blue gown. She sang the anthem in Russian, backed by a male choir.
