Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has said there is still a chance for peace in Syria.
The comments from Lavrov came ahead of his talks with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Geneva.
Speaking to students in Kazakhstan, Lavrov welcomed the Syrian Government’s acceptance of Russia’s proposal to place its chemical weapons under international control, the Guardian reports.
He said that he is certain that there’s a chance for peace in Syria, adding a warning that military intervention would further destabilise Syria and the region, the report said.
Lavrov said Russia and the United States were sending chemical weapons experts to Geneva to work out the detail of the plan.
Meanwhile, that Kerry and his delegation have arrived in Geneva and will have at least two days of meetings with their Russian counterparts, the report added. (ANI)
