Russian Investigative Office in Siberia Hit by Firebombing

CHITA, October 25 (RIA Novosti) – Investigators in Russia’s Siberian city of Chita said Friday that an unidentified person has firebombed the local headquarters of the powerful Investigative Committee.

The perpetrator smashed a window and threw in several bottles containing a flammable liquid in the early hours of Friday morning, investigators said.

The ensuing fire was put out by police officers guarding the building.

CCTV footage obtained by RIA Novosti showed a hooded man pelting several burning bottles at the building and running away. Investigators said they believe a group of people was behind the attack.

A criminal case has been opened on hooliganism and arson charges.

The Investigative Committee, a federal government agency with broad powers that is often likened to the FBI, began operating in 2011.
