Russian Prisoner Suspected of Killing Officer Found Hanged

YEKATERINBURG, November 3 (RIA Novosti) – An inmate suspected of killing a prison officer outside a penal colony in Russia’s Urals has been found hanged on a tree, local police said Sunday.

The suspect, Vladimir Obukhov, was reported missing after another prisoner and an officer who accompanied them for works in a forest outside in the Sverdlovsk Region were brutally murdered earlier this week.

His body, dressed in the officer’s uniform, was discovered some 40 kilometers from the murder scene. Police also found a gun, belonging to the murdered officer and more than 20 rounds of ammunition.

A spokesman for Russia’s Investigative Committee said the officer was apparently killed with an axe.

The inmates had a permission to work outside the penal colony. They went to the forest to find a place where to cut down trees, police said. An investigation is ongoing.
