Consolidation movements have been taking place in the Russian online travel sector, with some further sales taking place.

Russia’s travel website Oktogo.ru has announced the purchase of local online travel portal Travel.ru.

Oktogo has said its purchase of OneTwoTrip will give it an audience of 3 million unique monthly visitors, making it the largest online destination for independent travellers in Russia.

Oktogo is backed by major capital partners.

It will offer accommodation in over 5,000 hotels in Russia and over 250,000 hotels worldwide.

Travel.ru had been known for catering to travellers who wanted travel content put together by experts, both from editorial staff and users.
