Siberian Airport Closed due to Smoke

An airport in the Siberian city of Yakutsk was closed on Saturday due to thick smoke from wildfires, the airport authority told RIA Novosti.

“Yakutsk airport was closed until 11:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. Moscow time) due to thick smog,” he said.

Sixteen wild fires were raging across 3,600 hectares in the republic on Friday, the local Forestry Department said.

The city of Yakutsk is wreathed in smoke which is stinging the eyes of local residents.
