Thieves Steal Circus Bear’s Bicycle in Tatarstan

MOSCOW, May 6 (RIA Novosti) – Dashing one bear’s faith in humanity, unidentified thieves robbed a Moscow circus touring the republic of Tatarstan, making away with the bicycle on which the animal used to perform tricks for the public.

Timofei the bear was so saddened by the disappearance of the bike that he stopped eating, Moskovsky Komsomolets tabloid reported Monday.

Timofei’s trainer, meanwhile, was “hysterical” over the prospect of the bear missing the performance, local newspaper Chelyabinskiye Izvestia said.

The irony of the situation is that the bicycle, which is worth about 35,000 rubles ($1,100), is made of a special kind of steel and is completely unfit for humans, reports said.

But it is possible that the thieves only wanted it for scrap metal, given that their loot also included aluminum drums and hoops, Temakazan.ru local news website said.

Police were looking into the incident.
