Sarah Stierch / flickr The meteorite exploded 30 kilometres off the ground. 11 years ago today, on September 25, 2002, a meteorite exploded 30 kilometers above the ground, landing between the town of Bodaybo and the village of Balakhna. The explosion caused a bright glow in the sky which could be observed at a distance of 150 kilometers.
