MOSCOW — A fire in a three-storey building in downtown Moscow has killed seven people and severely injured several more, RFE/RL’s Russian, Tajik, and Kyrgyz services report.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the blaze may have been caused by antiquated electrical wiring and/or by misuse in the building, which housed labor migrants from Central Asia.
The Tajik Embassy in Moscow has confirmed that three men killed in the blaze were Tajik citizens: Kurbon Akhmadov, Alikhon Saidnaimov, and Naimsho Saidnaimov.
The other four bodies were badly burned and have not yet been identified.
The Kyrgyz Embassy in Moscow announced that four Kyrgyz citizens — Baatyrbek
Mazamatis Uulu, Nuraiym Almanbetova, and two small children, Meernisa Aitnazarova, and Emir Aitnazarov — have been hospitalized.
Twenty others were rescued from the burning building.
