A Just Russia party leader Sergei Mironov, who lost his job as speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament last month, took a seat on the lower house, or State Duma, on Wednesday, Russia’s election authorities say.
Fellow party member Yelena Vtorygina gave up her State Duma mandate for Mironov and will now become his aide.
A Just Russia chair Nikolai Levichev said a decision on who would lead the party in the lower house was “pending.”
St. Petersburg’s city legislature, which had nominated Mironov to the upper house, voted to recall him on May 18.
Mironov had come under fire from the ruling United Russia party for his criticism of St. Petersburg Governor Valentina Matviyenko.
