A Moscow court on Tuesday sentenced the leader of a far-right group to five years in jail for running a race hate online game.
Oleg Troshkin, the founder and chief ideologue of Severnoye Bratstvo (Northern Brotherhood), was arrested in 2009 along with a number of associates. The game the group ran has been closed down.
“The registered users were required to do a variety of tasks in real life in exchange for virtual money,” an Interior Ministry statement read.
The tasks included “acts of vandalism towards state and security services as well as non-Slavic nationals.”
Troshkin also owned a publishing house which printed Severnoye Bratstvo’s brochures and leaflets.
The 40-year-old’s jailing comes three months after a Russian nationalist was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering prominent human rights lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova in 2009.
