The Russian Investigation Committee said it will probe media reports that a Russian child was sexually assaulted by his Norwegian stepfather, a committee spokesman said.
The Pravda.ru portal reported this spring that the 13-year-old child of Irina Bergseth, a Russian national living in Norway, was beaten and sexually abused by his stepfather. Later, Irina also accused her former husband of abusing their 4-year-old son.
Norwegian child protection authorities took the children from their mother, saying she was mentally unstable. The father, whom Irina accused of pedophilia, was awarded custody over the younger boy and the elder son was send to a foster home.
“Investigators are set to request relevant authorities in Russia and Norway to provide all necessary information and conduct a complex of investigative measures,” spokesman Vladimir Markin said.
“If the child abuse reports prove to be true, the Investigation Committee will take all measures within its authority to bring those responsible to justice,” he said.
