Metallurg have capitalized on the advantage of home ice to make it 3-3 in their best-of-seven series against Avangard in the quarterfinals of the Gagarin Cup.
The Magnitogorsk team, who knew a loss on the night would mark the end of their season, went in from the second period, through Denis Khlystov.
But the visitors soon equalized thanks to star-veteran Jaromir Jagr, who converted the power play.
The fate of the game was decided on the last minute of the third period as Stanislav Chistov made the Mettallurg Arena go crazy, 2-1.
The series had a rather twisted scenario, with Avangard fighting back to recover from two losses at the start. Jarg and Co then won three successive matches, to move ahead in the quarter-finals. But after Saturday’s it is now 3-3.
The winners, who’ll face Salavat Yulaev in the Eastern Conference finals, will now be decided in Game 7 to be played in Omsk on March 21.
