All forest fires put out in Russia’s Komi republic

SYKTYVKAR, August 10 (Itar-Tass) — All forest fires have been extinguished in the republic of Komi in Russia’s north west, a spokesman for the local emergencies administration told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

According to the spokesman, nine wildfires on an overall area of 68 hectares were put out in the past twenty four hours. As of now, now fires are reported.

Fire alert has been put out in the republic, although both fire fighters and locals have formed special standby teams to monitor the situation, the spokesman noted.

As of August 9, the fire fighting team numbered 133 men and has 12 units of hardware, including four aircraft.

According to weather forecasts, there will be rains in the region bringing down fire hazards.
