Anzhi close to another shock signing

Russian Premier League fat cats Anzhi Makhachkala are close to signing Cameroon captain Samuel Eto’o, different European media report.

The Inter Milan striker is the subject of a multi-million dollar offer from the obscure but mega-rich club from the Russian southern republic of Dagestan.

The big-spending club, owned by the Dagestan-born billionaire Suleyman Kerimov, has recently drawn away Yury Zhirkov from Chelsea, while former Brazil and Real Madrid left back Roberto Carlos is their captain. Last winter they were reported to be in talks with Seria A veterans Gennaro Gattuso and Alessandro Nesta, but both preferred to stay in Italy. And now the club is close to another shock signing.

“Eto’o is leaving,” Internazionale CEO Ernesto Paolillo was quoted by Bloomberg as saying. “He is going to the Russian club.”

Meanwhile, Eto’o’s agent Claudio Vigorelli claims that terms of the contract have almost been agreed with the Russian side.

“We have almost reached an agreement with Anzhi,” he told Italian La Gazzetta dello Sport.

If the deal is accomplished the striker widely regarded as one of the world’s top goal-scorers will be the highest-paid player in football, earning an incredible 17 million euros a year, which is twice as high as the likes of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
