A scandal involving a cross-dressing prosecutor erupted in southern Russia on Friday after he was discovered dressed as a woman and trying to talk to teenage girls.
The man, 32-year-old Konstantin Fominov, who sent a pedophile priest to prison three years ago, approached a group of teenage girls outside an apartment building in the southern Kuban region on June 4. He was wearing a dress, a corset, high-heeled shoes and a wig.
“We saw a strange woman coming toward us, got scared and called out to some adults,” a 12-year-old Anna told Life News. She said the “woman” started running away but the girls’ fathers caught up with “her,” whereupon the prosecutor threatened to put all of them in prison.
“We took off her wig and saw that it was a man,” said one of the adults, Nikolai, who asked that his last name not be used. “Under the dress, she was wearing a female corset and male underpants.”
The people called the police, who arrived an hour later, led by a police colonel and other high-profile officials.
“They said the prosecutor had been on official assignment and seized the photos and videos we had taken,” Nikolai said.
Local police in the Krasnodar Region confirmed the detention.
A deputy chief of the local investigation committee, Ivan Sengerov, said the incident had been registered and investigators were trying to establish whether Fominov’s actions could be qualified as a crime.
Some media reports said Fominov was sacked from the prosecutor’s office shortly after his detention. Sengerov, however, said he had not seen a dismissal letter.
The press service of the Kuban prosecutor’s office said later that Fominov had tendered his resignation on June 4, the day of the incident, citing a serious illness.
