Diesel fuel from damaged pipeline pollutes Struga river in Ukraine’s Lvov reg

LVOV, August 4 (Itar-Tass) —— Diesel fuel has been spilled in the River Struga in Ukraine’s Lvov region after unidentified persons damaged a pipeline near the village of Peremozhnoye, a spokesman for the Ukrainian emergencies ministry said on Thursday.

According to the spokesman, the accident occurred on Wednesday and by Thursday morning it was remedied.

Measures are being taken to prevent a possible pollution of the Dniester tribute. Thus, “oil-spill booms have been placed on the river to prevent the oil products from reaching the River Vereshchitsa, the Dniester tribute, the spokesman said. “The river banks are being treated by sorbing agents.”

Measures are taken to establish how much diesel fuel reached the water from the 510 mm pipeline. The local environmental inspection has toughened water quality control in local rivers.
