EU, Armenia to Hold Free Trade Talks

The European Union and Armenia will hold a first round of talks on a bilateral agreement on the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area in June 19-20 in Brussels, Armenian Deputy Economy Minister Garegin Melkonyan said on Wednesday.

“Armenia was able to overcome all the EU preconditions and [we are allowed] to start the first round of negotiations to launch the process of signing the document,” Melkonyan said.

The EU is Armenia’s main trade partner, exporting 47 percent of its products to Europe. The agreement would allow Armenia to diversify its export routes and enter the European market on favorable conditions, he added.
