Father of Football Fan Murderer Killed in N. Caucasus

Magomed Cherkesov, the father of a North Caucasus native earlier convicted of killing Moscow football fan Yegor Sviridov, has been killed in Kabardino-Balkaria, a spokesman for the Investigation Committee said on Friday.

The alleged killer has been detained.

“Relatives of Magomed Cherkesov filed a claim saying that he had disappeared on June 5, his car was found several days later and the man who was driving it was detained,” a spokesman for the committee said, adding that the alleged killer is a 23-year-old resident of a nearby settlement.

The man showed the place where he left Cherkesov’s body.

“According to preliminary information, the man wanted to sell Cherkesov’s car,” the spokesman added.

Magomed Cherkesov’s son, Aslan, was convicted of killing Sviridov in a street brawl in 2010. A Moscow court jailed Aslan for 20 years. Riots with thousands of participants followed the shooting of Sviridov in central Moscow.
