FSB defuses 100-kilo bomb in Dagestan

MAKHACHKALA, August 17 (Itar-Tass) — Federal Security Service engineers in Dagestan’s town of Khasavyurt have defused a bomb with an estimated yield of 100 kilograms TNT, filled with destructive agents, the press service of the regional FSB department told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

The explosive device, hidden in a pipe, was planted at the back of a VAZ-2106 car, parked in Naberezhnaya Street, not far from a merchandise market and the Kirgu shopping mall.

The FSB said the one-meter long 55-mm metal pipe was filled with a mixture of ammonia nitrate and aluminum powder, and five-kilograms of destructive agents such as 5 kilograms of expansion anchors, three casings of F-1 grenades and three casings of RGO grenades.

It was a remotely-controlled bomb: the criminals installed on it two home-made electric detonators and an electric signaling system.

The bomb was defused at 10:30, Moscow time, by means of robotic manipulator.
