GAZ Group’s Ulyanovsk engine plant raises output by 10% in Jan-Jun

ULYANOVSK, September 5 (Itar-Tass) —— The Ulyanovsk-based engine plant belonging to Russia’s vehicle producer GAZ Group increased production of automobile engines by ten percent in the first half of the year, as compared to the same period of 2010, the plant’s press service told Itar-Tass on Monday.

In January-June 2011, the plant’s assembly line produced 32,300 engines, the press service said, adding that the enterprise has launched manufacturing new upgraded versions of engines.

The Ulyanovsk-produced engines are used for the assembling of GAZelle-Business business, which are produced at the GAZ Group’s Gorky plant (located in Nizhny Novgorod), the press service said.

Since the beginning of the year, the company’s designers have made about 30 upgrading proposals, including those pertaining to vehicle hardware and using of new materials, the press service said.

The Ulyanovsk-based engine plant is a subdivision of the Silovye Agregaty (Power Machines) company, which is a part of Russia’s biggest machine-building holding – the GAZ Group, the press service reaffirmed.

The enterprise produces gasoline engines UMZ-4216 and its gas-gasoline version UMZ-42167, the press service said, adding that the UMZ engines meet the EURO-3 ecological standard.

The Ulyanovsk-based engine plant produces ten models of engines and about 80 their versions, as well as more than 1,500 items of vehicle parts.

GAZ Group is Russia’s biggest producer of commercial vehicles in Russia. The company unites 18 enterprises in ten regions of Russia. GAZ Group produces light and medium-duty commercial vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, buses, road construction machinery and equipment, power generators and car parts. The Gorky plant is the major industrial asset of GAZ Group.
