Makhachkala nighttime blasts qualified as terrorist act

MAKHACHKALA, August 22 (Itar-Tass) —— The investigators qualified the nighttime bomb blasts in Makhachkala as a terrorist act, a spokesman for the Dagestani branch of the Investigation Committee told Itar-Tass on Monday.

“The criminal case over the blasts is also under investigation as a terrorist act,” he noted.

The criminal case was earlier opened over the blasts under five articles of the Criminal Code for an attempt on the life of law enforcers, the illegal circulation of explosives and explosive devices, the premeditated private property damage, an attempted murder of two and more people and the illegal making of explosives and explosive devices.

The bomb blasts went off in the evening on August 21. An unidentified terrorist detonated a homemade explosive device at the Yastreb supermarket, which is situated in Akushinsky Avenue. The bomb blast injured slightly the shop seller, damaged the stacks and the trading equipment. Ten minutes after the arrival of the police at the blast site another homemade explosive device was detonated at the entrance to the supermarket.

The Dagestani health ministry reported that the terrorist attacks injured 16 people, including two children. Ten people were hospitalized, six people received outpatient aid and were permitted to go home. Two people, including a child, are in grave condition. “Six policemen were injured and one of them was hospitalized,” the Dagestani branch of the Investigation Committee said.

The detailed investigation into the bomb attacks is underway.
