Man Held in $2 Mln Bank Fraud Attempt

MOSCOW, June 8 (RIA Novosti) – A man was detained in central Russia as he attempted to withdraw about $2 million in cash from a bank account using another person’s passport, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

Police detained the man in Nizhny Novgorod following a bank security alert.

“The client looked respectable, calm and confident and waited patiently as his withdrawal request was being processed. However, something in his behavior aroused suspicion,” the ministry said in a statement.

It did not say exactly how the man gave himself away.

He faces up to 10 years on fraud charges if convicted.
