MOSCOW, November 6 (RIA Novosti) – Microsoft will expand its center for research and development at the Skolkovo Innovation Center, the company’s press service said Tuesday.
The announcement follows on the heels of the unveiling earlier this year of an RD center by the world’s largest software developer at Moscow’s high-profile innovation complex.
Microsoft launched the center, focused on developing software solutions for medium- and large-scale businesses through Microsoft Dynamics, last May.
Now, the center will also be aimed at developing cross-platform solutions for smartphones and tablet computers.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said in a company press release that the expanded cooperation with Skolkovo – often referred to as Russia’s “Silicon Valley” – will reveal “the enormous potential of Russian developers in creating world-class software products.”
The company also said it would double its Moscow-based workforce by 2015 from its current 70.
Microsoft has not disclosed the sum of its total investment in Russia, although it notes that the figure reaches into the tens of millions per year.
The software developer is one of Skolkovo’s largest international partners. Besides Microsoft, the Russian innovation center also has deals with Cisco and Nokia, among others.
