Norwegian Consul Found Dead

A deputy officer at the Norwegian Consulate in St. Petersburg was found dead in an apartment Monday morning.

There was no evidence of violence having been inflicted on the man’s body, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

The statement did not identify the man by name, but according to the website of the consulate, the vice consul position is held by a man named Bjorn Are Prins, and Gazeta.ru reported Tuesday that a law enforcement source had confirmed to the publication that it was Prins’ body. The source said that a preliminary medical investigation suggested that he had died of a heart attack, but said the exact cause of death would only be known after an autopsy was carried out, Gazeta.ru reported.

The Investigative Committee statement said the man found was born in 1975 and that the body was discovered in an apartment on Gorokhovaya Ulitsa. Investigators are currently conducting an inquiry into the circumstances of the man’s death, the statement said.
