Russian president schedules State Duma elections for December 4

MOSCOW, Aug 29 (PRIME) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Monday that he has signed a ruling to hold elections to the State Duma, the Russian parliaments lower house, on December 4, RIA Novosti reported.

The ruling comes into force as soon as it is officially published, Medvedev said at a meeting with leaders of parliamentary parties.

For the first time, representatives of parties are to be elected to the State Duma for five years instead of the previous four year term. The electoral threshold is set at 7%.
