Russia’s Mechel sets up joint venture to export coal to India

MOSCOW, Aug 8 (PRIME) — Russian metals and mining company Mechel and Indias Somani Group have set up a joint venture to supply coal from Russia to India, a representative of the Russian company told PRIME Monday.

Further details of the deal, under which Mechel is expected to supply about 250,000 tonnes of coal to India per year, were not disclosed.

Mechels plants are expected to start supplying coal to the joint venture in September.

Mechel comprises producers of steel, rolled products, hardware, coal, iron ore concentrate, and nickel. Mechels products are marketed both domestically and internationally.
