Two people dead in Kazakhstan mine accident

ASTANA, August 21 (Itar-Tass) ——The body of the second miner has been found buried under the rock debris in the coal-face after an accident at the Kuzembayev mine in the town of Saran, Karaganda region, the press-service of the Emergencies Ministry of Kazakhstan reported on Sunday.

According to the Ministry there was a sudden release of coal and gas on Saturday during sinking operations. There were four miners in the emergency coal face, the two of them got out by themselves and the other two were trapped underground.

In total there were 107 people in the mine who were safely evacuated to the surface.

The rescuers found the body of the lead shaft man engineer Kornilov on Saturday afternoon and the body of mining extraction machine operator Erokhin was recovered overnight to Sunday.

The work at the mine was resumed in the early hours on Sunday. The investigation into the causes of the accident is underway.

According to the owner of the mine ArselorMittal Temirtau company, all the injured will get financial compensation under the current collective contract. The families of the dead will be paid monetary compensation to the tune of 10 annual wages.
