Zhirinovsky says Medvedev, Putin to run for presidency in 2012

BOCHAROV RUCHEI, August 29 (Itar-Tass) —— LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky said both President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin would run for presidency in 2012.

“I think that judging from their position in society and the state, their interviews, work experience and work schedule, they both are ready and intend to run,” Zhirinovsky said after a meeting between the resident and the leaders of seven registered political parties on Monday, August 29.

“Naturally candidates from the Communist Party and the Liberal Democratic Party will participate in the elections,” he added.

“I have participated in the [presidential] elections four times and I am ready to run again as long as there are relevant decisions of the LDPR congress,” Zhirinovsky said.

He believes that four candidates will compete for the presidency in 2012 and the elections will involve two stages. “I think the second stage will be most interesting. Someone from the Kremlin team and someone from the opposition will make it to the second stage,” Zhirinovsky said.

He does not rule out that both Medvedev and Putin will run in the second stage. “This is also possible,” he added.
