Russia and Ukraine will establish a joint venture to manufacture nuclear fuel later this year, TVEL nuclear fuel Vice President Vasily Konstantinov said on Wednesday.
“I believe a joint venture will be created later this year,” he said, adding that the plant will be built in Ukraine’s eastern Dnepropetrovsk region.
It will be a long-term, 60-year project, he said.
A draft agreement on the creation of a joint venture was signed by Ukraine’s state-controlled concern Yadernoye Toplivo (Nuclear Fuel) and Russia’s TVEL corporation in January.
Ukraine is planning to establish a full-scale nuclear fuel manufacturing cycle for its four nuclear power plants.
