Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Police major general, Alexander Trofimov a new interior minister in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia, Kremlin press service said on Monday.
Viktor Pogolov, who previously headed Ingush Interior Ministry, was appointed a police chief in the central Russia’s Kirov region.
The newly-appointed Ingush police chief had been the first deputy interior minister in another Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan since 2009.
In response to growing criticism, Medvedev ordered a large-scale reform of the police department in December 2009, including cuts in officer numbers and the increase of salaries.
