MOSCOW, July 6 (Itar-Tass) —— A criminal case was opened over a crash landing of a Mi-8 helicopter in Russia’ s Siberian Irkutsk region, a spokesman for the East Siberian transport investigation administration of the Russian Investigations Committee said on Wednesday.
According to the spokesman, the criminal case was opened on charges of violations of air traffic safety rules that resulted in the death of two or more persons.
The Mi-8 helicopter of the UTair air carrier made a crash landing in the Katanga district of the Irkutsk region at 09:00 a.m. Moscow time on Tuesday. The helicopter crashed some 190 kilometres off the town of Kirensk. It carried workers from Ust-Kut to a drilling platform in the Katanga district. There were 16 people onboard the helicopter, including three crew members. Two persons died instantly, the rest were injured and hospitalized in clinics in Kirensk and Irkutsk.
An investigation is underway.
