DUSHANBE, July 20 (Itar-Tass) —— A resident from the city of Khujand, which is the administrative centre in the Sogdi Region, is the only victim of an earthquake that rocked northern Tajikistan overnight to Wednesday. Abdullo Ashrapov, who was afraid of tremors, jumped out of the window of his flat on the second floor and died, a source in the Tajik Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
A strong earthquake, which rocked a sweeping area in Tajikistan, “was an aftershock of an earthquake measured 6.2 points in Kyrgyzstan” overnight to Wednesday. The seismologists reported that the earthquake epicentre was located at the junction of the borders of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. People in northern Tajikistan and Dushanbe were feeling the strongest tremors.
Many residents in a high-rise centre of the Tajik capital left urgently their flats rushing for a shelter in a nearby alley. The kitchen utensils kept chinking and the lamps were swindling for several minutes.
The earth fault at a major depth did not result in destruction. “No reports about the incident came to the call centre of the emergencies agency,” the republican emergencies committee reported. This is already the second earthquake for the past day.
