Charismatic, energetic and powerful – his reputation precedes him. Denis Matsuev, the virtuoso Russian pianist often described as the new Horowitz, is to make a recording of several concerts and symphonies for the Sony Music label.
Siberian-born Matsuev is set to perform Heroic Elegy, the Dance of Death and Orpheus by one of the key composers and greatest pianists of all time, Hungarian Franz Liszt.
One of the most sought-after pianists of his generation, Matsuev has a roster of prestigious awards, including a coveted victory at the International Tchaikovsky Competition back in 1998.
The 36-year-old Moscow Conservatory graduate has performed with such luminaries as Maestro Valery Gergiev, Zubin Mehta and Kurn Masur. The versatile pianist mediates his love of classical music with a passion for jazz, once saying that “if classical music is my wife, jazz is my lover.”
