MOSCOW, August 19 (Itar-Tass) — The laying of the paving stone on Moscow sidewalks will be continued next year, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin told journalists.
The brick laying was started this year rather late because of the large amount of work on the design, geological study development, survey work and tenders, he explained. But the brick laying is a “summer process” and after September 1, when the city becomes crowded, it is not appropriate to continue it, as the work should be carried out during summertime when the number of people in the city considerably decreases, Sobyanin believes.
He also stated that according to calculations of European experts, 1 million square metres of asphalt give the same discharge of hazardous substances “as half of all cars in Moscow.” “We are removing this asphalt, this bad stuff, but all are crying: ‘What are you doing, let us continue to breathe it,’” the mayor said.
