Russia to Focus on National Aims After Joining WTO

Russia will focus on its national priorities after accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday.

“We will go by our national priorities after WTO accession. We should learn how to react to our partners’ actions firmly and rigidly as they are our competitors. We could even file in court if necessary,” Medvedev told a government meeting.

To become a full member of the WTO, all documents must be ratified by the Russian government, parliament and president by July 23, 2012. Russia spent 18 years trying to enter the WTO, completing accession talks in December 2011.
