A young mother faces up to 10 years in prison after she tried to sell her four-month old daughter for 35,000 rubles (about $1,000), prosecutors in the Samara Region reported on Tuesday.
“A minor Kyrgyz citizen was detained as she attempted to sell a four-month-old baby girl, who she acknowledges is her daughter, for 35,000 rubles. A police search at the scene turned up the money the woman was to receive for selling the baby,” the statement says.
Investigators have opened a criminal case into human trafficking. The suspect is in custody and faces 10 years imprisonment.
The baby girl is in good condition and is in the care of medical personnel.
