CAIRO, November 5 (RIA Novosti) – Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi is planning to visit Russia soon, a presidential administration spokesman said on Monday.
Earlier in the day Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Morsi and handed him an invitation from the Russian authorities to visit the Russian Federation, spokesman Yasir Ali said.
Ali did not elaborate on the agenda of the upcoming visit.
During his meeting with Lavrov, Morsi noted the importance of Russia’s influence in crisis resolution, especially in “ending the bloodshed in Syria,” Ali said.
“President Morsi also urged the Russian president to continue [Russia’s] participation in the [Mideast] Quartet, considering its role in the resolution of the Palestinian problem.”
