MOSCOW, November 9 (RIA Novosti) – In a radical – if unscripted – revision of Little Red Riding Hood, a petite pensioner from the mountainous republic of Dagestan killed a rabid wolf with an ax, acting in self-defense, according to local media.
Aishat Maksudova, 56, a resident of the Novy Biryuzyak village, was busy repairing a fence in the calf pen when she was attacked by the animal, Rgvktv.ru said.
The woman dropped the ax because of the attack, but managed to shield her throat with one arm and used the other to throttle the wolf, hard enough to make it release her arm, the report said on Wednesday. She then grabbed the ax and hacked the wolf to death.
The woman was hospitalized with numerous bites to her right arm, hand and thigh, RIA Dagestan said. She is also undergoing rabies treatment.
The incident took place last week, but details of Maksudova’s fight – which earned her the nickname “wolfhound” – were not reported previously.
Local men are preparing a raiding party to eliminate the wolf pack that is terrorizing the district by attacking the cattle, Rgvktv.ru said.
