Over 75 buildings and bridges in Moscow will turn off their lights on Saturday as part of the Earth Hour 2011 international event, the Moscow environmental protection department said on Wednesday.
Earth Hour is a global event organized annually on the last Saturday of March by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Individuals and organizations switch off nonessential lights and electrical appliances for one hour to attract public attention to environmental problems.
The event will be held in Russia for the third time. RIA Novosti will also take part in it.
Last year, Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest such event ever since 2007, when it was launched. A total of 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate awareness.
